Concerning the NCAA and Mascots

I may write a longer post on this later, but for now, here's my 2 cents:

First $0.01 - We should not mock or make fun of other peoples' ethnicity.

Second $0.01 - This is America, and if someone wants to mock or make fun of me, that's their right.

I think that when a large number of native Americans protest using a name that they consider sacred or offensive, then the school using it should change. No if, and or buts about it.

You'll notice that there aren't any school mascots called the Slaves or the Cottonpickers, so why should the most oppressed of all races in our nation continue to be mocked and humilated by thousands of "fans" screaming "Go Redskins, Go Braves!"

It's simply inexcusable and needs to stop!

I agree that the school using it should make the change. My beef is with the NCAA. They should not stepping in to try to force the change. The taxpayers of Florida pay are the ones who run Florida State university, not the NCAA. Furthermore, the Seminole nation of Florida likes the mascot name at FSU and would like for it to stay the same. It really shouldn't matter what other Seminoles from other parts of the country think.
