To Santa or Not to Santa? Your opinion?

We need some major league help here...asap. The wife and I are in a big dialogue about whether or not to do the Santa thing the way our parents did it back in the early 70s or whether we should use a less traditional approach in order to protect our children from confusion. So far our 3-year-old believes.

All right all you experienced parents, help us out here. Please. Time is runnin' out.

Hi Brett,
Tim and I differ on this as well. I liked Santa. I don't feel like it did any harm to me. In fact, I'm not sure when I really found out he wasn't real. I guess my parent's played the part but didn't really stress it. I loved getting up in the middle of the night to find out what was in my stocking. I did that as long as I lived at home. It was just fun, good Christmas memories. But I see the importance of the other side too. So I don't know what we'll end up doing with Daniel. Please let us know what you conclude.

I'm out on Santa. Maybe your three-year-old is smarter than mine (you'd have a hard time convincing me of that!), but I just think it's too confusing.

Who's watching what we do? Jesus or Santa? Who's giving me presents? My parents or Santa?

I can't figure out who Santa is helping. Are there kids that are SOOO thankful to their parents that the parents want their kids spread the gratitude? Lewis' Father Christmas is cool, but I don't think that what most kids get from Santa.

Ethan thinks that Santa is like Spiderman and Superman -- *pretend* characters that it's fun to talk about. But Jesus is real, with a capital "REAL".

Alright - when comment>post, it's time to stop.

Santa is like a warm puppy, a cold Mountain Dew on a hot summer day, a good laugh when you need one and a ray of sunshine after weeks of cloudy days.

In other words, let children enjoy Santa Claus for what he is, and has always been, just a mythical, jolly fellow who helps little boys and girls all around the world enjoy the Christmas holiday just a little bit more. They'll learn the truth soon enough. I've yet to run into an adult who is resentful for being told "the lie" of Santa's existence.
