Food Friday: Fast and Cheap
What is your Favorite Fast-Food Restaurant? Why?
Mine is Wendy's because they make a great burger, they have a great variety, and Dave was a great guy.
Very, very, very, close second (and gaining ground): Chick-Fil-A

Oh, dear...do you know what a difficult question this is? I DO love Chik-Fil-A -- their chicken biscuits, chicken sandwiches are so great. Their nuggets are the best anywhere! And I love that they're closed on Sundays. I'm far more likely to go to a restaurant or store that honors the Sabbath. (Of course I don't go ON the Sabbath. *g*)
But I'm really partial to Taco Bell, too. And Captain D's! Love that battered fried fish...food so bad for you it's good. :)
Definitely Chik-Fil-A. Great stuff in the kid's meals, closed on Sundays, and best chicken sandwich on the planet. And Tim's right, good coupons.

What is "fast food?" How do you define it? Does it have to be a national chain? Does it have to have a drive-thru window? Does it have to be a place that does not have table service? Is it determined by how fast you get your food? If so, how fast is fast enough? How fast is too slow to be considered "fast food?" (Why does it take longer to make a Krystal burger than it does to make a sandwich at Subway?)Please help me with this. How can I participate in a discussion of such import when the terms have not been clearly defined?
OK, Wooten...here's the answers to your questions:
I define fast food as having to walk in, stand in line at the counter to place your order, then you stand off to the side for just a few minutes, oftentimes less than a minute, carry your food own food on the tray or in the sack over to a condiment table that offers you ketchup (sometimes), and other possible condiments, but especially straws and napkins. A drive-through option is expected but not a necessity (Subway). On very rare occasions, if they know a particular item is going to take a while, they may offer to bring that particular item to you when it is ready. Regarding chain status, I would say that to qualify in this category, yes, there needs to be multiple locations but it doesn't have to be nationwide (e.g., Firehouse Subs).
Anyone else have a better or shorter way to define a "fast-food" restaurant?
Another great thing I forgot to mention about Wendy's is that they now offer an incredible variety for you side item with your value meal.
