- A famous celebrity couple will divorce.

- Alabama will hire a new head football coach. O.K., I must admit, I'm not confident on this one.

- A movie titled "Amazing Grace" will come out.

- The St. Louis Cardinals will not win the World Series.

- I'm going to go out on a limb on this one, but... neither will the Milwaukee Brewers.

- The war in Iraq will be controversial.

- More states or cities will ban trans fat.

Great Ford Quote

Here's a great quote from President Ford at the ripe age of 88, which means he said this about 5 years ago:

Rick Warren: Self-Professed Calvinist

Let me qualify the title of this post. Warren did not use the "C" word, but he did call himself a monergist in an interview with Modern Reformation magazine, which is basically a synonym for Calvinism. Indeed, I would argue the term is an even stronger affirmation of the sovereignty of God in salvation than the more popular label of Calvinist. Here are a couple of excerpts from that interview from a few years ago:

Theologically, I am a monergist and firmly hold to the five solas of the Reformation. It’s pretty obvious from the book that I believe in foreknowledge, predestination, (see chapter two, “You Are Not An Accident”) and, especially, concurrence—that God works in and through every detail of our lives, even our sinful choices, to cause his purposes to prevail. Proverbs 19:21 (NIV) is one of my life verses.

...Third, the book is about the Christian’s walk, not justification. I did include a simple call to Christ in case unbelievers picked up the book (which thousands have). But to know my full view of the doctrines of grace, you’d need to have heard my two year, verse-by-verse exposition through Romans.

Turns out Warren's great-grandfather was led to Christ by Charles Spurgeon, was trained at Spurgeon's College, and then sent to America to pastor.

Noonan on Obama

Peggy Noonan has done it again! A provocative piece on a political figure. This time her genius is at work on Illinois Senator Barack Obama, whom she points out, is more about image than substance, at least at this point.

My take is that Obama will not win the nomination because his popularity is cresting too early.

Gerald Ford Very Ill

According to the Drudge Report tonight, former President Gerald Ford is not doing very well at all. The oldest living President in history is the only President who I had the pleasure of meeting. We met many years ago, while he was in office, and campaiging for election against Carter.

Christmas Scam in Tampa

This morning on the commute I was listening to a radio show where they were uncovering a scam in the Tampa area. Apparently, someone an self-addressed stamped envelope on the empty trash cans, hoping that people will mail money to them as a bonus, thereby taking advantage of people's generosity toward their trash man during the holidays.

Further evidence of the radical depravity of man.
